I refuse to panic....so instead I'll focus on Open House!

As I was doing a little shopping earlier this week I ran into three people that all said the same thing, "Is your school going to be ready for the first day of school?  I've heard construction is way behind schedule."  YIKES!  That is not what you want to hear just 3 short weeks before reporting back to work.  Now, let's remember that none of these people have actually been in the building and they are all just making judgements based on the outside appearance of the building and things they've heard from other people, but three in a row....in the same afternoon.....got me a little freaked out.  We don't have a move in date for our newly renovated building and I'm not gonna lie.....that worries me a little.  On the other hand, I've been working so hard this summer to get things done that I'm confident I can get my room set up no matter when the move in date is.

So keeping with that productive attitude I started on some of my Open House goodies.  I found these free printables at Jodi's blog Fun in First Grade.  Honestly, how stinkin' cute are these?!?!

I made some bookmarks to use throughout the year.  I teach reading to all of the fourth graders at our school so my class will get theirs on open house night and the other fourth graders will get them at our first meeting.

I found this AMAZING idea at Step into 2nd Grade with Mrs. Lemons.  How genius is a checklist for open house.  This way while I'm greeting everyone at the door, parents and kiddos can take care of what they need to get done at their desk and not have to worry that they've missed something. You can get a copy here.

To go along with the checklist and to hopefully relieve a little anxiety about the first day of school I printed these cute little poems that I found on Pinterest.  It came from a website for Step by Step Childcare. A little laugh will be good for all of us. Feel free to use it if you'd like.

Lastly I plan to leave my new business cards and a short survey about their child on each desk.

I just love all the anticipation that Open House brings.....smiling faces, brand new school supplies, excitement, and new friends.....don't you just LOVE the start of a new school year!!!  How do you greet students on Open House Night?

  1. Same thing happened to me one year! We got in our rooms the weekend before school started. And then our building was hit by lightning that Sunday! It was a crazy start to the school year. I'm crossing my fingers that your building is done quickly!
