Teacher Tuesday

My favorite day of the week.....Teacher Tuesday!!  I don't love it because I get to showcase some adorable little classroom project I've created.....I love it because I get to browse all the amazing things other teachers have made on Tara's blog 4th Grade Frolics.  After you take a look at what I created this week, head on over to her site and check out all the fabulous things other teachers are making.....it's amazing!!!

First I created these sweet little birthday treats for my students.  If you have checked out Pinterest lately, they are everywhere.  The idea I pinned came from The Lesson Plan Diva.  I love the idea of having them premade, and ready to go.  I even made a few extra just in case I get any new students as the year goes along. I choose to use silly straws for the stick portion (I've seen them done with Pixie Stix) and I will also include a mini Milky Way as part of their gift because honestly people, a birthday deserves chocolate!

They were super simple to make and cost $6.  I purchased the straws at Target (found them in the birthday supply isle), used a free Garfield and Odie digital clip art I found on the internet to create the inner circle (I have a large Garfield in my classroom.....that's why orange is one of my classroom colors this year), and then traced a glass for the orange circle.  I added a little glue to hold them nicely while I laminated them.  I can't wait to hand them out on everyone's special day!

Lastly I created these cute little pens to match my classroom.  I found the idea at Chocolate On My Cranium, you can get the instructions for how to make them there.  I will tell you I had to go to WalMart for the pens.  Target didn't have the ones I wanted and Dollar Tree does, but they only have 2 pens for a dollar, and the pack at WalMart was 5 for $2.80.

My son simply can't stop making fun of the fact that I made matching pens for my desk.  He thinks this is the most ridiculous thing I've made all summer.....teenage boys have absolutely no appreciation for color coordination (or clean laundry, clean dishes, and deodorant :)

I'm also linking up with Oh'Boy 4th Grade on a new Currently!!!

    1. Thanks Tara! It's so funny that you mentioned in your blog that you need to get some real teaching stuff done....I had that same thought this weekend! I am planning to really focus on using our reading notebooks this year and want to put together a sample one before school starts....that just might be my next project!

  2. Stellaluna! Oh my gosh--I had completely forgotten about that book! I'm going to have to go digging for it to make sure I have it in my stash at school next year!

    1. My fourth graders love that book! We use it at the beginning of the year to talk about character traits, then we use it again mid year to talk about theme.....when I pull it out they all say "Ooooh, I love that book!"!!

  3. The pens are on my list of to-do's. Not sure when I will ever get around to them, but I am pretty sure that all the males at my house will have the same response and maybe even my oldest girl. :/

    1. Shelby, the pens took about 5 minutes or less. I had a bunch of scraps left over from when I made the banner last week and just cut them, rolled them and stuck them in the pens! I love them and might see if it works in mechanical pencils too.....goodness knows Katie needs a set of pencils to match the new Vera Bradley backpack she's buying :)

  4. The pens are amazing. I am going to have to do that myself. Maybe I can keep my pens that way instead of them racing off my desk. Wonder if it would work with Mechanical Pencils? Humm, I might try it.

Stellaluna is one of my favorites too. Have a blessed Week.

    1. So excited to have you as a follower! I used the Daily 5 in my 4th grade classroom last year and my students loved it. I tweaked it to the Daily 4, and we didn't actually do it daily, but we did do read to self daily. Unfortunately, our testing scheduling really got in the way in the spring. I plan to use it again this year and am hoping my kiddos love it as much as the ones last year!
